Much of the information included elsewhere on the MVA website and Community Toolkit may be of use to Sports Cubs.  However, Sports Scotland operate a very useful website Help for Clubs tailored for the particular needs of Sports Clubs.  It includes information on setting up and running clubs, including sections on Governance; Coaching; Child Protection; Funding; Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC's); charitable status etc.

The HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) website contains tax guidance on  Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs), including how to register -




Statistics can be very useful for funding applications, business plans, service planning, monitoring, etc.  


Arrow Icon  Community Planning Research & Information Group (CPRIG) - In Midlothian, the CPRIG produces a yearly publication, "Profile of Midlothian", which contains a wide range of information (plus sources of further information) that is used by the Community Planning Partnership.  In addition, the Council has produced Neighbourhood Plans for a number of areas.

Arrow Icon   Scotland's Census - Are you looking for statistics to inform service planning and business plans, or to support funding applications?

Lots of information from the Census 2011 has been released (and more is still to come). The most recently released information includes data on unpaid carers, health, disability, and ethnicity.

The website has been made to be as easy to use as possible and there is lots of data available.

Arrow Icon    Scottish Consortium for Learning Disability (SCLD) - this website includes statistics about people with learning disabilities in Scotland.

Arrow Icon    Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD)  - "The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation identifies small area concentrations of multiple deprivation across all of Scotland in a consistent way. It allows effective targeting of policies and funding where the aim is to wholly or partly tackle or take account of area concentrations of multiple deprivation."  Source:  SIMD website

The SIMD 2016 was published on 31 August 2016 and features include Interactive Mapping.   Potentially really useful for service planning and backing up funding applications.

 Arrow Icon    Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics (SNS) - Scottish Neighbourhood Statistics is the Scottish Government's on-going programme to improve the availability, consistency and accessibility of small area statistics in Scotland.   A wide variety of searches can by done, including general ones by Postcode or Local Authority.  Searches can also be made for bespoke areas, e.g. compiled from individual data zones.
