STARTING UP A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE
Maybe you are thinking of starting your own business and are interested in finding out more about social enterprise. Perhaps you have your own business and are wondering whether social enterprise might be a better fit with your aims and aspirations.
If you would like further information on any aspect of starting up a social enterprise then get in touch with SEAM. Here are some resources you might find helpful:
One of the best starting points for anyone interested in social enterprise is Senscot www.senscot.net and their guide to ‘Who’s Who?’ which you can access from their home page.
Just Enterprise www.justenterprise.org is supported by the Scottish Government which provides a one-stop-shop for all social enterprise start-ups or potential start-ups. It is an ideal starting point. You must register with them to access their support. Funding may be available.
This toolkit from UnLtd www.unltd.org.uk/socialentrepreneurshiptoolkit is comprehensive, nicely laid out and presented. Good for start-ups (and social enterprises seeking sustainability too).
Firstport www.firstport.org.uk is a form of support for individuals interested in social enterprise and entrepreneurship. As with the sources above it is both well laid out and free to use. Funding may be available.
The School for Social Entrepreneurs www.the-sse.org/schools/6/scotland might be able to help you if you are an individual with an enterprising idea. They offer courses, mentoring and other support (sometimes funding).
SEAM has access to a Community Toolkit for start-up and existing organisations which includes sections on social enterprise. You can access this here http://www.mvacvs.org/index.php/information-resources/community-toolkit.
